P90X
1/2 of Arms & Shoulders
1I took the plunge and ordered the Bowflex Selecttech dumbbells and used them today for the Arms & Shoulders workout. It really made switching weights a LOT faster than manually swapping plates on my other dumbbells. I hadn’t done this workout in awhile and didn’t lose too much strength from the last time I did it. I’m going to try to sneak in Chest & Back tomorrow morning as well as some Abs. At a minimum, I’d like to try to get in one set of the three strength workouts each week for the summer. If I find time to sneak in some of the others I will.
1/2 of Chest & Back; Ab Ripper X
0It’s been awhile since I’ve done a P90X workout. Over the last month I’ve done a few “regular” workouts but nothing very consistent. Dedicating an hour or more a day to P90X has been difficult with coaching soccer, learning guitar, playing basketball, etc. Plus with the weather warming up, frankly I’d rather be playing outside.
That being said, after seeing so many of my friends picking up P90X, I felt compelled to try to squeeze a workout in today since I have the day off. I did one set of Chest & Back followed by Ab Ripper X. I was happy to see that I didn’t lose too much from Chest & Back although I must admit it was more challenging than when I left it. I also skipped out on the second set and went straight to Abs. Wow. That one really kicked my butt today. My body felt so tired and weak and I struggled through it. I know after getting a few more under my belt it will get easier but I was surprised how exhausted I felt throughout.
At least I got a decent workout in. Looking forward to feeling sore tomorrow. I’m going to try to get Plyo in tomorrow but now sure if I’ll have time after work to do that.
Spring is here, time for a change
0I’ve decided to take a break from P90X for awhile because I want to take advantage of the warmer weather after work. Right now, I have a half hour at lunch that I’m not using for anything so I plan on hitting the gym at work and getting an overall body workout in 3 times per week. On a couple of weeknights and weekends I hope to maybe get some jogging, hiking or basketball time in. Also, on rainy days I can throw in some of the P90X workouts like Plyo. Right now it’s too hard to commit to a 60+ minute workout after work. When fall approaches and outdoor activities subside, I can get another true round of P90X in. In the meantime, I’m going to play around a bit with my schedule and see what works.
That being said, yesterday I went to the gym with a friend and did a full body strength workout using some exercises I’ve never tried before. Afterwards we went out for a 30 minutes jog…although I must admit due to some of the hills and my lack of aerobic exercise lately ended up being a fast walk at points. The good news is that I haven’t gained any weight back, especially after eating like a pig on vacation a week or so ago. I’m sure I’ve lost a bit of strength but I think I can maintain it with my new plan. We’ll see what happens as the spring and summer roll along.
I’m still here!
0I realize it’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted any new updates. Things have been crazy the last few weeks. We were away on vacation and prior to that things were hectic in preparation for it. The last week has been catch-up but I did manage to get a couple of workouts in.
We went to Disney World and managed to get PLENTY of walking in. Despite eating a lot of food, I managed to gain only a few pounds which quickly disappeared a few days after coming home. Last Monday I walked for about an hour on the treadmill. I didn’t run because my feet were still sore from trekking around Disney World. I also did a light weight workout. Yesterday I did one of the P90X bonus workouts, UML.
Since the weather has been warmer, I’m trying to stay active outside more. I’ve been shooting hoops the last few days. Also this week I begin coaching my son’s soccer team again. Needless to say, I won’t be doing a true P90X routine anytime soon but I plan on staying active and incorporating some workouts in, probably abbreviated ones. I’m hoping that in the fall I can get another full round in.
That’s the scoop for now. Happy Easter!
Legs & Back; Abs
0I did the last half of the Legs & Back workout as well as abs today. I really hate doing lunges so I tried to make them fun today, especially during the 3-way lunge. I was doing crazy Kung Fu hands and weird noises which made the exercise pass faster. Sneaky lunges are always a challenge for me. I don’t have a problem with staying on my toes the whole time, my problem is balancing while I lunge. They look so steady doing them and I feel like I can’t get down too low or I’ll fall to the side. Ab workout was good. I also increased the weight I use for the mason twists, mainly because it was the closest free weight to me on the floor.
